Our Performing Arts & Music curriculum aspires to developing a committed and friendly community of learning with access to excellent teaching & learning facilities. The resources in the area enable us to be at the ‘cutting edge’ of new developments and technologies. We provide educational routes from post-school to undergraduate level, offering a balanced and coherent provision across the broad spectrum of subjects encompassed by art, design, media, performing arts and music.
The curriculum team are specialist practitioners in their subject areas and have a broad range of professional experience. As a consequence, the majority of students are successful in progressing to a wide range of Higher Education courses and other FE courses or employment. The teaching team monitor the needs of the creative industries, commerce and the local community, and as a consequence the curriculum is very responsive to developing technologies. New programmes of study include: Music Technology, Contemporary Music Performance, Musical Theatre, Dance, Drama, Physical Theatre, Technical Theatre, Animation, Games Design, e-Media, Film Studies, Creative Computing in addition to Media (Moving Image), Art & Design, Performing Arts, Interior Design, Graphics & Multimedia.
The experience of the student is of prime importance to area. Students are encouraged to participate in visits to; galleries, arts centres, film and video workshops, theatre visits, industrial workshops. Student trips have included visits to London, Stratford, Cuba, New York, China, Poland and many more.
The area boasts excellent resources, such as; a theatre, dance studio, drama studio, metals work shop, 3D workshop, ceramics studio, textile and print studio’s, photography facilities, film production facilities, music production facilities recording studio’s, specialist Apple-Mac computing facilities, digital still and moving image camera’s, electronic drum kits. Software includes: Final Cut Pro, Photoshop, Indesign, Pro Tools, Logic, Reason, Dreamweaver, Flash, Cinema 4d, I Can Animate, Auralia, Form Z.
