Hairdressing

Hairdressing jobs combine a lot of interaction with other people and the satisfaction of instant results. It's a universal skill that could allow you to work anywhere in the world, either as a hairdresser in a salon or by opening your own salon.

You will get to study in our own Inspirations Salon, where you can gain practical experience, trained by tutors who have many years experience in the industry.

UK Hairdressing is regarded as one of the best in the world. There is ample opportunity to travel internationally and use your skills abroad. VTCT/City & Guilds are our awarding bodies whose qualifications are recognised nationally and provide a progression route to advanced level.

You could go on to work in a beauty salon, clinic, hair salon, health farm, cosmetic company, nail bar or cruise liner.

The purchase of a Hairdressing kit and uniform is a mandatory requirement for all Hairdressing courses.

Funding

We have a wide variety of financial support available for adults to fund your studies, as well as a dedicated finance team to help make studying with us affordable.

If you are aged 19 or over, and studying a Level 3, 4, 5 or 6 course, you could apply for an Advanced Learner Loan. The Advanced Learner Loan is a government-funded loan to help learners. It's easy to apply for, doesn't take your household income into account and doesn't involve a credit check.

We can also support you with a Learner Support Fund, which can assist with costs including childcare, college meals, exam fees and course materials. The amount of funding you can receive depends on your personal circumstances, and you could be entitled to free tuition if you're studying a Level 2 course. In the event that you do have to pay a course fee, this can be managed in an affordable way through our direct debit scheme, with monthly payments starting at just £25.

Find out more about the funding you could receive, here.

Are you an adult looking for an Apprenticeship?

Apprenticeships are a great way of gaining important skills and qualifications with work-based training. You'll also receive a wage whilst you study, which makes apprenticeship training a fantastic option for adults preparing for employment.

You can start an apprenticeship even if you are already employed, or the College can help you secure an employer in a relevant field. They develop real work experience, and you gain both technical and academic skills with 4 days per week spent in the workplace and the remaining day in College.

Progress onto university with South Devon College

We also have an extensive degree programme, delivered in partnership with Plymouth University, so when you complete your studies you could progress to a related university degree that will develop the knowledge you need to excel.

If you don't feel quite ready for university study, our Access to Higher Education Diplomas can help you prepare, so there's nothing to stop you from achieving your goals. We have courses in a number of subject areas, as well as support with interview techniques and UCAS applications to other institutions.
