South Devon College exhibited at the Manufacturing, Technology and Innovation MTI12 event at the Riviera International Conference Centre on Thursday 18th October 2012.

The event was aimed at Hi-tech, manufacturing and engineering businesses; buyers and supply chain companies looking to extend their networks and build contacts; industry professionals; trade organisations; workforce development advocates; and students looking to follow a career in engineering, electronics, information technology or manufacturing.

The event was a huge success with hundreds of individuals attending including close to 100 pupils from local secondary schools.

The Science & Technology Department worked hard to provide the visitors with some fantastic opportunities to ‘Have a Go’ at bridge building, robotics, drone flying, PLC programming, visit the STEM Bus Roadshow and so much more.  Feedback from the visiting pupils was excellent:

The staff

“I can’t wait to sign up for a course at South Devon College, the stuff you can do there is amazing!”

"Being able to have a go at controlling Robosapien was really fun and a lot more difficult than it looked!”

“I had a go at building a bridge but it kept collapsing.  I was very interested when the lecturer explained why my bridge wasn’t bearing loads very well and then managed to successfully build a good bridge that could take the weight of the lorry.”

Thanks go out to all staff involved in the event and preparations are already starting for next year.
