THE PUBLICATION of today’s GCSE and First Diploma results has been well received at South Devon College after learners achieved a 100% pass rate across the board - including in Maths, English and Science - significantly above the national average.
The College offers nine GCSE subjects and is very aware of the importance of a GCSE in Maths, English, and Science. They offer the opportunity for learners who are unhappy with their original grade achieved at other establishments to retake the qualification. The 100% pass rate achieved in Maths, English, and Science is coupled by an excellent percentage of learners who achieved high grades A*-C. Other subjects that achieved a 100% pass rate were Biology, Chemistry, General Studies, Humanities, Psychology, Media Studies, Business and Sociology. These impressive results contributed to the College’s overall pass rate of 100%, even better than last year’s GCSE figures for South Devon College and significantly higher than the national benchmark.
“The College continues to build on its success year-on-year, with great GCSE and vocational results following on from our outstanding A level results last week,” said College Principal Stephen Criddle, “It reflects the high standards of teaching and learning available at South Devon College. I would like to pay tribute to all the staff and students who have worked so hard to achieve such outstanding results.”
Katie Drake, from Newton Abbot needed to get an A in English to get onto her Primary Graduate Teacher Programme in September.
“I am really pleased with my result!” said Katie, “Being able to take the GCSE in the evening so it didn’t interfere with work was great.”
Healthcare Assistant Wayne Swift from Torquay achieved an A in Biology and is progressing onto further healthcare qualifications at South Devon College.
“I can’t believe I managed to get an A!” said Wayne, “It has certainly been worthwhile. The tutors were excellent in the way the course was delivered.”
Lisa Phillips, from Torquay is going onto study a PGCE at Exeter University after achieving an A in Biology and Maths.
“It felt great opening my results,” said Lisa, “I really enjoyed the course and I’m very proud I got As.”
Former KEVICCS student Kyle Cowley-Nichol from Paignton was retaking GCSEs at South Devon College and achieved 3 Bs in Biology, Chemistry and Maths with a D in Psychology.
“I was happy when I opened my results today,” said Kyle, “I left school with low grades and now I get to study A Levels at South Devon College, where they offer just what I need.”
