University Open Day success

University Centre

Over 140 potential university students visited the Uni Open Day at South Devon College earlier this week on a lovely sunny day to enquire about joining Foundation Degree courses, both this September and in September 2013.

College tutors were on hand to give detailed information about specific courses and staff showed visitors around the University Centre, which was purpose built for teaching university courses, opened in 2011.  Students could also learn about the nitty gritty of student loans and grants so they could make a fully informed decision about their future study.  Visitors commented:

“The event was very helpful, very well run and a good amount of information”,

“It was useful being able to meet the tutors and talk through anything you needed to,” and “It gave me very clear information and was very informative. The staff were very helpful and friendly.”

Trips were organised to show students the College’s newly refurbished accommodation in nearby Dartington; the visitors were impressed by the facilities on the Dartington Hall accommodation:  typical comments were:

 “Very impressive, beautiful surroundings”,

“Wow, fantastic!”  and “Good price for accommodation”.

Places are still available for most  Foundation Degrees courses on offer at the College, all awarded by Plymouth University.  Those enrolling  on Yacht Operations, Biosciences, Engineering Technologies, Events & Conference Management, and Tourism Management/ Tourism & Hospitality Management could also be eligible for a fee waiver of £3000 for the first year – half the total fees – under the National Scholarship Programme.

Pat Denham, OBE, Vice Principal and Deputy CEO, was delighted with the event.

“The satisfaction levels we receive from our existing university students is well above the national average for universities, so it’s very encouraging to see so many potential students getting the message about the quality of our degree courses.  Students can live at home while they study with us, which provides them with a much more affordable option than living away.”
