Professional recognition for Sustainable Construction Degree at South Devon College
South Devon College’s new Foundation Degree in Sustainable Construction & the Built Environment, has just won professional recognition from the Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB).
Students achieving this FdSc degree will be able to enter CIOB membership at Incorporate Level (ICIOB). If they upgrade to Honours level, and with appropriate experience, they can apply for a membership upgrade to full Corporate membership (MCIOB). Those with an HNC will be able to apply for Associate membership (ACIOB).
The degree programme was approved by Plymouth University earlier this year and will be run for the first time in September 2012. It builds on the HNC Construction which has been delivered by South Devon College successfully since the 1970s. Students can study the course full time (2 years) or part time (3 years). Following the Foundation Degree, students can progress to Plymouth University for the third stage to reach Honours degree level, or gain employment directly. Those who study part time find that the degree and now also the professional recognition gives a major boost to their career.
This accreditation proves that the Foundation Degree meets the needs of industry in the construction sector, and is a great endorsement of the course.
Dave Worthington, Programme Co-ordinator for the Foundation Degree, was delighted with the news.
“We designed this course with employers and the course incorporates work based projects and site visits. It’s therefore important to us to have this seal of approval from the professional body for this industry. Students studying on our degree course will have a major step up in their careers by achieving an academic qualification and professional accreditation in one go.”
