South Devon College’s recent Managers Club meeting is growing in strength with over 40 people attending the recent session, which highlighted the importance of keeping on the right side of employment law, with interesting talks from Peta Harper and David Bareham.
The next presentation on 1 February at 5.30-6.30pm is entitled ‘Going for Gold with Investors in People’ and will be made by Pat Denham, the Vice Principal and Deputy CEO of the College. The College have recently been awarded an incredibly prestigious Gold Standard for the initiative – joining just 1% of all UK employers to have attained the highest accolade. Pat will outline how this was achieved and the importance of reward and recognition, people management and learning and development. Wayne Thomas will also be giving an inspiring short talk about ‘Developing Leadership Skills’.
The Club, which is held on the 1st Wednesday of the month from 5.30-6.30pm in the University Centre and is designed to bring together business people and expert lecturers in a relaxing environment to explore the latest management thinking in the fantastic setting of the new University Centre in Paignton. The Club welcomes anyone interested in business and keen to learn about interesting subjects and is completely free.
The Managers Club also served as a reminder about a series of free ‘Career Boost’ courses. Over twenty 3 hour bitesize courses will be held at both the University Centre in Paignton and the Management Centre at Heathfield, Newton Abbot. The courses cover a range of interesting topics, including Leadership Skills, Financial Awareness and 21st Century Marketing.
Lynn Bjorn has already had a positive response from the first session on Taking Successful Meeting and Minutes.
