Principals visit Berry Head 'On the Edge' project

Recently the Torbay College Principals, who are members of the Adult & Community Learning (ACL) Strategy Group, met at Berry Head to pose for the cameras to launch the 2010-11 prospectuses for adult day and evening classes. Stephen Criddle (Principal of South Devon College), Jane English (Principal of Paignton Community College), Gill Battye (Principal of Torquay Community College) and Mark Eager (Principal of Brixham College) enjoyed a guided stroll with warden, Emma Reece.

Emma explained that Torbay Coast and Countryside Trust had received Sea Change grant funding for this Geopark gateway site. Berry Head now has a modern interpretation centre and restaurant, a new accessible hide, which over-looks the sea bird colony, plus better pathways. Staff are being trained to repair old walls using traditional lime mortar methods.

The Principals enjoyed a spot of bird watching at the hide before a coffee in the new Guard House cafe. They meet regularly to devise the strategy for the future of Adult & Community Learning across Torbay and are instrumental in ensuring that the service stays vibrant and meets the needs of learners.
