English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL)

ESOL classes are designed to improve the reading, writing, speaking and listening of residents whose first language is not English. You will need to attend a pre-enrolment session in order to identify your current skills and decide which class will suit you best. Classes are split into different levels so you will be working with others of similar capabilities.

The classes run for two hours a week for 10, 15 or 20 weeks depending on the level. Entry level 1 up to entry level 3 will gain the nationally recognised City & Guilds qualification in ESOL.  The Level 1 and level 2 students will be able to take advantage of a City & Guilds Functional Skills qualification.

ESOL classes (for speakers of other languages) are offered at Vantage Point, South Devon College’s main site, and through Adult Community Learning at Torquay Academy on a variety of dates and times during the day and evenings to fit in with work and family commitments.
